We all delight in watching a Ghostlier film or reading a scary book. It is not quite so enjoyable when your home is the subject of outer-worldly attention. Occasionally poltergeist activity can go on for several years prior to the occupant of the home is ready to acknowledge that certain unexplained occurrences would be the work of a mischievous spirit.
Most of us understand what it is like to put an item and then forget where we have put it. But, poltergeists are often eager to have us know of the existence in the home and will wickedly place the thing somewhere we could not possibly have abandoned it, for example on the top of a top shelf or dresser only accessible with a step ladder but tantalisingly observable without one.
Animals will often know about the existence of the uninvited guest long before humans. You will see your pet cat or dog playing what appears to be an invisible friend, or the animal will sit beg in front of a vacant seat.
Lights will be mysteriously Turned on, televisions and radios will be switched on suddenly or have settings changed, refrigerator doors will be left open and doors will be unlatched, apparently by somebody other than yourself, yet there is nobody there on most extreme haunted houses in Ohio. Lots of individuals have supposed themselves to be prematurely senile, or more imaginative, before they will consider the presence of a ghost in the house. Understandable when you consider we have been raised to enjoy a great scare on the television or in books. A number people have been conditioned to dismiss such happenings as impossibly unscientific.
The appearance of a ghostly Soul is rare indeed, even though some claim passionately they have seen a ghost. Audible activity is quite common, however, and even easily welcomed by people that have an infinity for these phenomena. Not everything that goes bump in the night could be clarified by errant pets, mice in the attic, shrinking window frames or inadequate carpenter. Buildings carry a footprint of people who have gone before and if your specific house guest is a friendly one – be thankful.
Jan Gamma writes reflections on life with an emphasis on world travel. She has lived in several countries and travelled extensively in the Far East, the Middle East, America, and South America and throughout the South Pacific. She writes for fun and for cash whenever she can handle it. While there is indeed evidence That Cost was not always fair in his job, the stories and facts about Burley Rectory have all of the components of a classic haunted house, made even more interesting since they date back for centuries which goes against conventional beliefs.
